Hello I just wanted to complain about the poor customer service that the store from forest grove provides to their international customers.
I´M an international exchange student from Ecuador in Pacific university and this is my experience of safeway .
the first time I went to safeway the cashier did not consider my national id valid to purchase a bottle of wine even thought is says clearly that im over 21 which i tried to understand do to the language difference (i´m used to carry my passport but that day i did not) but few moments later a classmate from France show her national ID in french an got accepted without question. was that fair or the gender or ethnicity matter in this case? and the second event occur today 02/27/14 when I went for second time to this store to do my weekly shopping and this time i showed my passport to the cashier but it was enough. apparently the expired condition of my student visa was reason enough to deny my purchase. the date of expiration is outdated because I recently decided to stay another semester on campus and the U.S. Government provided me with a J-1 status certificate that allows me to stay legally until i finish my academics activities which i show to the cashier. even thought i had to appeal to an explanation and show my perfectly legal documents she did not settle with it. she had to call her manager and make a big public scene about what was happening. i honestly felt disrespected to me and my nationality. the manager confirm the veracity of my documents and told the cashier to let me proceed with my purchase without any apologize. its that how your establishment treat tourist, outsiders and international students? i didn't know that safeway was part of the U.S. Embassy. I respectfully recommend to train your employees better so they do not commit again this offensive and shameful actions. every people for any nationality deserve respect and people who work in customer service should know and be aware of the conditions of a visa or any type of this legal documents, specially if the store is located near to a college campus where students from all over the world visit. I was so shock that i didn't know how to react and just left without anything to say, impressed with what just happened.
hopefully this message will get to the people responsible for the training in costumer service so people like me wont have to go trough this embarrassment again.
